May 7th 2009 at 7pm First Annual Hope Unlimited Cannabis Patients Rights Forum: Come Meet Prop 215 Co-Author and Leader of California Norml, Dale Gieringer, and Cannabis Policy Advisor Travis Knowles from Todd Gloria's Office of San Diego City Council District 3. This Forum is a chance for you to interact with major supporters and community leaders who care about medical cannabis patient rights. Dale will speak about his new Medical Cannabis Handbook for Patients, as well as answer questions about Cannabis Policy. Travis Knowles will be available to share your concerns with, such as lack of local access to Medical Cannabis, or questions on forming a San Diego patient collective.
Hope Unlimited will also be celebrating three years this may of existence!

Travis Knowles, Council Representative
Travis Knowles, a native of Orange County, moved to San Diego in 1998 and now lives in Talmadge with his wife and young daughter. Before coming to San Diego, Travis lived and worked in London, England for two years. He returned to pursue graduate studies in Political Science at UCSD. In 2006, he earned a Masters Degree in Political Science, and is currently completing his dissertation as a Ph.D. candidate and is looking forward to a long career in public service and political action.
During his graduate studies, Travis was a fellow at the Center for Marine Biodiversity and Conservation at Scripps Institute of Oceanography and worked as a teaching and research assistant. Additionally, he volunteered as a member of the Project Area Committee for the City Heights Redevelopment Area and as a union organizer for UAW Local 2865. Travis is an avid basketball player and enjoys listening to bluegrass music.
Travis serves as Councilmember Gloria's representative to the neighborhood of North Park and works on issues related to refugees, canyons, environment, medical cannabis and infrastructure.

Dale Gieringer has been the state coordinator of California NORML (National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws) since 1987. He is also Vice-Chairman of the national NORML board of directors, director of the California Drug Policy Forum (DPFCA) and treasurer of the Oakland Civil Liberties Alliance (OCLA).
Dr. Gieringer has published research on medical marijuana usage, marijuana smoke harm reduction, potency testing, marijuana and driving safety, and drug urinalysis. He has testified before the legislature and in court on issues concerning personal use of marijuana. He was one of the original co-authors of California's medical marijuana initiative, Prop. 215, and the proponent of Oakland's Measure Z cannabis initiative in 2004.
